Baptist Health Care, Cox Communications, Soft Rock 94.1, the Pensacola Interstate Fair, WCOA 1370, Magic 106.1 teamed up to offer the third annual “Bras Across the Bridge” on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 8 a.m.

We met on both sides of the Bob Sikes Bridge. Breast cancer survivors, their loved ones and the community were invited to join together to increase breast cancer awareness.

Beginning at 7 a.m., participants parked and registered at the AppRiver complex on Gulf Breeze Parkway and at the Amphitheatre on Portofino Boardwalk on Pensacola Beach The first 500 participants received a pink “Bras Across the Bridge” T-shirt. Participation was $10 per person plus donation of a new bra. The bras were strung across the bridge as a show of awareness and support for breast cancer. After the event, the garments were donated to local organizations that help women and girls in need. Funds raised were donated to Baptist Health Care Foundation’s Mammogram Fund.

“We are pleased to offer this important community event that benefits women locally,” said Dave Cobb, general manager, Soft Rock 94.1. And anyone can participate regardless of their age or fitness level.”

According to the National Cancer Institute, more than 225,000 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed this year – nearly 40,000 will die. While there is no cure for breast cancer, early detection enables early treatment and increases chances for survival.
