Baptist Health Care Foundation - Planned Giving

WHAT IS A CHARITABLE GIFT ANNUITY?

A charitable gift annuity is a contract between Baptist Health Care Foundation and a donor.  In return for a gift of cash or other property, the Foundation agrees to pay a fixed sum of money for a period measured by one or two lives.

The person who makes the gift is the “donor,” and the person who receives the payments is the “annuitant” (beneficiary).  In most cases the annuitant is also the donor, but this is not always true.  Sometimes a child may establish a gift annuity for an elderly parent.  There can be a maximum of two annuitants.

The older your designated annuitants are at the time of the gift, the greater the fixed income Baptist Health Care Foundation will agree to pay.

A portion of each payment is tax-free, which can further increase the value of your payment.  And, if you make a gift using appreciated property, there may be additional tax savings.

Payments are usually made in annual, semiannual, or quarterly installments.

BENEFITS INCLUDE:

1)    You will qualify for a federal income tax deduction in the year the gift is made, and a portion of each payment is tax-free for the period of time equal to your life expectancy.

2)    Your designated annuitant(s) will receive fixed payments for life.

3)    Your estate may enjoy reduced probate costs and estate taxes.

4)    You will provide generous support of Baptist Health Care Foundation.
